What is 504?
There are students who do not qualify for Special Education services under New York State law but who do have disabilities that qualify them for accommodations to their educational program under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
The law states that any individual who has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person's major life activities, has a record of such impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment qualifies for special accommodation under the 504 regulations.
Who do I contact about seeing if my child is eligible for 504 services?
You should contact your child's teacher or principal if you want information about 504 services and how your child could be evaluated.
