Acceptable Use Policy for Electronic Media and Services

 

  The Odessa-Montour Central School District is committed to providing the best resources to access to the world of information through the Internet.  The use of the Internet must be in support of education and research, and consistent with the educational standards of the Odessa-Montour Central School District.  The Internet and computer networks will be used to educate our students to become information literate and independent and responsible users of these valuable educational resources.

 

  The Odessa-Montour Central School District considers access to the Internet through classroom accounts to be a privilege.  The District has provided a Code of Conduct to restrict access of questionable material and limit inappropriate use, however total control of all online activities is impossible.  Therefore, all users who access the Internet through the Odessa-Montour Central School District’s network must accept responsibility for this privilege and adhere to the rules set forth in the Internet / Computer Code of Conduct.  If a student commits any violation of the Internet / Computer Network Code of Conduct the privilege of access maybe revoked and/or denied in the future, and school disciplinary action according to the School’s Code of Conduct and/or legal action may be taken.

 

Internet / Computer Network Code of Conduct

 

  Uses of the computer network and Internet must be in support of education and consistent with the goals of the Odessa-Montour Central School District.  Computer use requires efficient, ethical and legal utilization of resources.

  All students from grades 6-12 must accept the Acceptable Use Policy when they first log on to their computer account at the start of the school year.  This indicates your understanding of the terms and conditions of the agreement and you will adhere to them.

  Access to computer resources at Odessa-Montour Central School District is a privilege and may be limited, suspended, or terminated with or without notice.

 

  • Students will not share their password with anyone and do not use anyone else’s password.
  • Computer resources will be used for educational purposes consistent with Odessa-Montour Central School District’s mission and goals.  These resources will not be used for personal or financial gain.
  • Students will not violate the rules of common sense or computer etiquette.  Impolite or abusive language or inappropriate behavior that is perceived as harassment is strictly prohibited.
  • Intentionally accessing material that is profane or obscene, that advocates illegal acts, violence or discrimination toward other people is prohibited.  If you mistakenly access inappropriate information, tell your teacher or the staff person supervising computer use.  This will establish that you did not intentionally violate this policy.
  • Students will not access or change files that do not belong to them and will respect the privacy of others.
  • Students will not download files or access streaming media without the permission of the supervising teacher.
  • Students will not plagiarize from the Internet.  Students will respect copyright laws.
  • Students will reimburse, indemnify and hold harmless Odessa-Montour Central School District, its agents and employees, from any and all liabilities, damage, expense, cause of action, suit, claims of judgements arising out of any activity by the student.
  • Students will not use computer resources to access email, instant messaging, chatting or any form of message boards.
