The Odessa-Montour School District participates in national school breakfast and lunch programs, meeting federal standards for nutritional requirements.
Parents are urged to apply for free or reduced-price meals. If qualified, your child will receive free or reduced- price meals for both breakfast and lunch — confidentially.
The New York State Department of Education requires that there must not be any discrimination of children who qualify to receive free or reduced-price meal benefits. Therefore, we do not identify any student who receives a free or reduced-price meal by use of special tickets. All Middle and High school students will enter their I.D. number on a key pad in the school’s cafeteria cash register. The ID number will confidentially and automatically tell the cashier the student’s account status — full price, reduced-price or free meals and whether there is a positive or negative account balance.
To prevent waste, we practice offer versus serve. If a child finds a certain food unappealing, he or she does not have to take that item.
Breakfast is available to all students in grades K–2 at BC Cate and for all students in grades 3–12 at Hanlon. Our goal is for students to eat a nutritious breakfast and get to class on time. Students who walk should arrive for breakfast five minutes before the buses arrive so they can be served first. Students who ride the bus go directly to breakfast upon arrival.
Prepaid breakfasts are available through the breakfast cashier. When school opening is delayed, breakfast is NOT served.
Nutritious lunches are vital to both mental and physical growth during a child's formative years. The state-mandated reimbursable meal pattern is followed for lunches, serving meat or protein alternate, milk, bread, fruit and vegetable. Milk and ice cream are available each day.
Prepaid lunches are available for all students in grades K–12. Middle School, High School, Hanlon and BC Cate students may make a deposit in their account by bringing cash or a check to a cashier at lunch time or by bringing it to the cafeteria manager in the morning. A balance in their account may be used for both lunch and a la carte purchases. Student accounts may be set up for no a la carte purchases. Please notify the cafeteria manager if you want your child’s account set up this way. Charging is allowed for emergencies only. Repayment is due the next school day. If another emergency charge is needed, the student will get a peanut butter and jelly sandwich along with fruit, vegetable and milk. Students may not charge more than twice.
