Hanlon Elementary is a wonderful school located in the village of Odessa and surrounded by the beauty of the Finger Lake Region of New York State. Our small school provides an excellent education to 188 students in grades 3 through 5. We share the Odessa-Montour School District's campus with our Middle and High school students, many of whom are the big brothers and sisters of children at Hanlon.

Our teaching professionals have a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and personalities. They work hard to provide multiple teaching methods, techniques and styles to children with many different talents and gifts. Together, our teachers, students, support staff, parents, volunteers and community members have created a school environment that is challenging, nurturing, safe yet fun! Walking into the building you can feel the school spirit and pride. Hanlon is truly a great place to be!

Our school was proudly named after Howard A. Hanlon who served our district as our school board president for 15 years and a school board member for 33 years. Mr. Hanlon was also the co-founder of a timberland management company that had been established in this area during the 1920's.

I leave to children exclusively, but only for the term of their childhood, the flowers of the field and the blossoms of the woods with the right to play among them freely, warning them at the same time against thistles and thorns. I devise to children the banks of the brooks, the golden sands beneath the waters and the odors of the willows that dip therein, and the white clouds that float high over the giant trees. I leave the children the long, long days to be merry in, in a thousand ways, the night and the moon, and the train of the Milky Way to wonder at. -- Howard A. Hanlon (1896-1973)
