Marge Johnston, BC Cate School Nurse 535-7267

A health office staffed with professional RNs serves students in grades K-2 at BC Cate and students in grades 3-12 at Hanlon. Their goal is to maintain the health and wellness of the entire student body and enable students to fully participate in the school day. They screen students annually for height, weight, vision and hearing. Scoliosis screening is done for students ages 8-16. Education law requires physical exams when students:

  1. Enter the district.
  2. Are in grades 1, 3, 7, or 10.
  3. Participate in interscholastic sports.
  4. Are referred to the Committee on Special Education.
  5. As deemed necessary by school authorities.

Physicals are performed by the school physician unless a certificate of health by the family physician is provided before October 1st. Immunization records must be furnished, by lawn, on all students when registering for school entry.

Medications, both prescription and over the counter, may be administered by the nurses during school hours with physician and parent permission only. Forms to administer medication are available in the Health Office.
