No Child Left Behind
What is NCLB?NCLB is the title of the law signed on January 8 2003 by President George W. Bush, re-authorizing Title I (Remedial Services). It is titled No Child Left Behind.
It addresses:
- Helping all students meet high standards
- Improving teacher quality
- Technology in schools
- Language instruction for limited English Proficient and Immigrant students
- Safe and Drug Free School and Communities
- 21st Century Community Learning Centers
- Innovative programs
- State assessments
- If their child is in need of placement in a language instruction education program and why. Other information regarding the LEP program.
- Parents may request information regarding the professional qualifications of their child's classroom teacher(s) and paraprofessional staff regarding:
- whether the teacher has met State qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;
- whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing has been waived;
- The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification of degree; and
- whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications
- Information on their child's level of achievement in each of the State Academic assessments.
- Notification if their child has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified.
