Signs To Look For


What are some signs to look for with your child to determine if they are struggling academically?

  • Poor performance on group tests
  • Difficulty discriminating size, shape, color
  • Distorted concept of body image
  • Reversal in writing or reading
  • General awkwardness
  • Poor visual motor coordination
  • Hyperactivity
  • Difficulty copying from a model
  • Slowness in completing work
  • Poor organizational skills
  • Easily confused by instructions
  • Disorganized thinking
  • Poor short term/long term memory
  • Impulsive behavior
  • Poor peer relationships
  • Lags in developmental milestones
  • Failure to see consequences of actions
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Difficulty with tasks requiring sequencing

When considering these symptoms, it is important to remember:

  • No one has all of these symptoms
  • Some are more common that others
  • Everyone has at least 2 or 3 of these
  • It is important that the number of symptoms seen does not indicate the severity of the disability
