What are some signs to look for with your child to determine if they are struggling academically?
- Poor performance on group tests
- Difficulty discriminating size, shape, color
- Distorted concept of body image
- Reversal in writing or reading
- General awkwardness
- Poor visual motor coordination
- Hyperactivity
- Difficulty copying from a model
- Slowness in completing work
- Poor organizational skills
- Easily confused by instructions
- Disorganized thinking
- Poor short term/long term memory
- Impulsive behavior
- Poor peer relationships
- Lags in developmental milestones
- Failure to see consequences of actions
- Difficulty concentrating
- Difficulty with tasks requiring sequencing
When considering these symptoms, it is important to remember:
- No one has all of these symptoms
- Some are more common that others
- Everyone has at least 2 or 3 of these
- It is important that the number of symptoms seen does not indicate the severity of the disability
