Since the 1999/2000 school year, the Schuyler County Mental Health Clinic has been providing Mental Health Services to students in the Odessa-Montour Central School District through the School Outreach Program.

     The Schuyler County Mental Health School Outreach Programs was developed to provide a link between the mental health clinic and the schools. Its primary purpose is to support teachers, other school personnel and families in the social-emotional and academic development of their students/children. Kim Rosekrans, CSW, and Janice Kilborn, PhD, are available to provide direct services, case management, and team membership and capacity building.

     The School Support Services Project (SSSP) provides improved access and/or delivery of individual and family treatment services in the schools. The addition of this project will further improve the collaboration between schools and mental health services. SSSP is joining the team of school and mental health providers in helping students be successful in school.

     The School Support Services Coordinator, Chris Burns, will collect, analyze and review data to provide feedback to school personnel, agency staff and families. He will coordinate trainings for staff and parents. Chris will maintain a positive link with the Parent Partner, who works for FLPN (The Finger Lakes Parent Network). She will provide support to families of children with emotional/behavioral issues.

     The School Support Services Social Worker, Diane Schmidt, CSW, will be providing direct, on-site Mental Health services in the schools for designated students. Diane may provide clinical evaluation, individual and group therapy, family therapy, advocacy services, social skills training, crisis intervention and consultations with staff, and referrals to area agencies (as needed). These Mental Health counseling services are voluntary and require parent permission in order to take place.
